For Curious adventurers
The best way to make your next trip more authentic and meaningful is through smarter travel. I like to call this "Anti-Tourism".
Smarter travel means putting experiences, connections and understanding to the forefront of your travel plans. It means learning about your destination before you travel there.
Do this and you can experience the places you visit in a very different and more authentic way than the usual tourist does.
Here's what smarter travel on my site is all about...
History is the story of people and places around the world. That's why I believe we should learn about the history of our destinations before we travel... so you can fully appreciate what you see and understand how things came to be the way they are.
Learning about different cultures helps us to better understand the world around us. We do this by putting ourselves in someone else’s shoes and trying to understand their perspective on the world.
The fastest way to the heart of the places you visit is to connect with local people. We do this by mastering the basics of the local language... so you can communicate with people when you travel and show the locals you respect them.

The Anti-Tourist Club is a training and support centre I have created for curious adventurers who want to do travel differently.
It is where people like you and I come together with a common mission:
"To put learning at the heart of our adventures and unlock the kinds of meaningful travel experiences most tourists never have"
Your membership in the The Anti-Tourist Club is your ticket to an ever-growing support network of like minded people who want to explore the world through learning.
In a world of package holidays, hop-on/hop-off buses and guided tours, travel has become shallow.
You pass all the “key sites”, stop very briefly, listen to a short, boring recording of information about the site and then move on.
Travel like this and you’ll never truly uncover the places you visit and understand what makes them tick.
The antidote to shallow travel is learning.
Specifically, learning as much as you can about the people and places you visit BEFORE you go on your trip.
"Travel makes a wise man better, and a fool worse".
- Thomas Fuller -
When you do this, you set yourself up for a real voyage of discovery, that makes your trip more fun and the memories last longer.
And that's why I've created a whole series of articles on what it means to travel smarter and be an "Anti-Tourist".
